Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Susta Natural Sweetener
Susta is a great-tasting, all-natural sweetener that contains probiotics, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other ingredients for optimal health.
Q: What’s in a packet of Susta?
A: Susta is a blend of natural ingredients including dietary fibers, orange peel and other natural extracts.
Q: How is Susta different from other sweeteners?
A: Some sweeteners contain dangerous chemicals and processed ingredients, and most of them contain no nutritional benefits. Other natural sweeteners may contain Stevia, a plant derivative which produces a bitter aftertaste. Susta is an all-natural sweetener that tastes great and provides unparalleled health benefits, too.
Q: What does Susta taste like?
A: As a standalone product, Susta has a subtle, sweet fruit taste. When added to coffee, tea, cereal and other foods and beverages, Susta sweetens without overwhelming – unlike other sweeteners, which can mask the original taste of foods and beverages by providing a strong, unnatural sweetness.
Q: Is Susta calorie-free?
A: One packet of Susta has five calories. Recent studies have shown that zero-calorie products can cause cravings and may actually contribute to weight gain, and that the sweetness of artificial sweeteners can also result in an impulse to eat something sweet and caloric – all of which may result in weight gain. Susta’s five calories ensure that consumers will be satisfied after consuming the product.
Q: How can Susta be good for you if it contains fructose?
A: Like a healthy and nutritious apple or a vegetable, Susta has a very tiny amount of sweet fructose, with lots of fiber and other important nutrients. In fact, it takes almost a whole box of Susta packets to equal the sugar in one apple! Fructose is a natural sugar and plays a crucial role within the health and metabolism of virtually all living things: plants, animals and even micro-organisms. However, like all things, moderation really is the key when consuming any foods or dietary nutrients, including fructose and all sugars.
Q: What happens when you frequently over-consume sugars, especially large amounts of fructose?
A: Continuous overconsumption of dietary sugars (including High Fructose Corn Syrup) means that excess fructose can be converted into body fat sooner and somewhat easier than its sister sugar glucose (both glucose and fructose in near equal amounts make sucrose and most forms of HFCS). Additionally, consuming excess sugar over time is linked to other potential health problems, including diabetes, obesity and dental decay. In contrast, the tiny amount of natural fruit sugar (fructose) found in Susta is buried within a high-fiber blend and does not cause health problems. Susta’s natural fruit fructose plays a nutritional role in the diet and is consistent with the kind of healthy nutrient composition found in fruits and vegetables.
Q: What is the difference between fructose and high fructose corn syrup?
A: HFCS is made from both fructose and glucose. Most of the time, the two sugars in HFCS exist in nearly equal amounts. However, there are some forms of HFCS used by some manufacturers that may have even higher levels of fructose. Also high in glucose, HFCS will rapidly raise the blood sugar, which stimulates the blood sugar response. Natural fructose, as found in plants, does not contain glucose and in small normal amounts, as found in fresh fruits and vegetables, does not significantly raise the blood sugar.
Q: Where can I buy Susta?
A: Susta is available at leading grocery outlets including Shaw’s and Shop Rite; Albertson’s in Arizona, Texas and Florida; Big Y in Connecticut and Massachusetts; and Kroger in Columbus, OH. Susta can also be purchased online at www.nxtnutritionals.com and www.sustastore.com.
Q: How much does Susta cost?
A: Susta Natural Sweetener is sold in boxes of 50 two-gram packets for $4.99.
Q: Is Susta FDA-approved?
A: All of the ingredients in Susta are well-known and have GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) Certification or comparable from the FDA. Susta does not require FDA approval.
Q: Is Susta safe for use by diabetics?
A: Susta is a safe sugar alternative for diabetics and is the only sweetener endorsed by Dr. James R. Gavin III, former President of the American Diabetes Association and a member of the Company’s Medical Advisory Board.
Q: Can Susta be used by pregnant women?
A: Yes. Susta is all-natural and chemical-free, and is therefore safe for use during pregnancy.
Q: Are there any other Susta products available?
A: Consumers can find Susta in the dairy aisle in Healthy Dairy Yogurt Smoothies throughout the northeastern U.S. The product is all-natural and nonfat, and contains essential nutrients, proteins and probiotics bacteria. Healthy Dairy Yogurt Smoothies are available in Strawberry, Peach, Mixed Berry, Tropical Fruit and Strawberry Banana. Susta™ Bowl, the baking version of Susta, will be available in summer 2010.
Q: What else should we know about Susta?
A: Susta is all-natural and does not contain wheat, soy, alcohol, yeast, caffeine, egg, dairy, or lactose. Susta is also cholesterol-free, vegan and gluten-free, all the while providing vitamins, nutrients, probiotics, fiber and great taste.
